Les Noces
Les Noces is an abstract interpretation of a traditional Russian village wedding. Stravinsky composed it in 1913 and ten years later Bronislava Nijinska choreographed the piece in what is widely regarded as a turning point in the history of ballet. Örjan Andersson’s Les Noces was inspired by Nijinska’s and her economical and geometric aesthetics where the individual is described through the mass rather than their own solos. The theatrical hits back to the advantage of the choreographer and the dynamic body language of the dancers. The idiom is descaled in shape and structure to meet the intensive, bombastic music. The piece was first performed in 2004 at the Göteborg Opera. |
